Founder of the Community of Women in Water

Kathryn Pharr founded the Community of Women in Water (CWiW) in January 2019 to bring together women working on water issues from around the world. She is passionate about supporting the Community and ensuring members have what they need to make a difference in the world. She is constantly inspired by what Community members are achieving.

Most recently Kathryn was the Senior Policy Adviser on International Climate Action at WaterAid. She has water expertise related to climate change, transboundary, urban resilience, WASH, and gender. Kathryn’s work on science policy and implementation began over a decade ago and includes time with the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation, Arup, the Global Water Forum, the U.S. Department of State, and the University of Oxford. Kathryn holds a masters of science in Analytical Chemistry from Wake Forest University and a bachelors from the College of William and Mary.

Kathryn Pharr fundó la Comunidad de Mujeres en Agua (CWiW por sus siglas en inglés) en enero de 2019 con el fin de reunir mujeres trabajando en temas de agua alrededor del mundo. A Kathryn le apasiona apoyar la Comunidad y asegurar que las integrantes tengan los elementos necesarios para hacer una diferencia en el mundo. Kathryn constantemente se inspira por los logros de las integrantes de la Comunidad.

Recientemente, Kathryn ha sido Asesora Superior de Políticas sobre Acción Climática Internacional en WaterAid. Es experta en temas de agua relacionados con el cambio climático, transfronterizos, resiliencia urbana, WASH y género. Su experiencia en estos temas empezó hace más de una década, e incluye colaboraciones con la Alianza para la Adaptación Global del Agua, Arup, el Foro Mundial del Agua, el Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos, y la Universidad de Oxford. Kathryn tiene un máster en Química Analírica de la Universidad Wake Forest y un pregrado del College de William y Mary.

With a master’s degree in Politics and Public Administration, Arianna Orlando’s strong interest in the social and gender aspects of sustainable development has led to a focus on water. At the Stockholm Environment Institute and Global Water Partnership, she integrated gender and social inclusion into WASH interventions and water management projects. Living, studying and working in Finland, Germany, Sweden, and Italy highlights one of her key strengths: adapting to multinational teams and new situations. She joined CWiW as a trainee and found a support network which is helping her grow professionally while applying and expanding her communication and outreach skills. After being a CWiW intern in 2022, she is pleased to take on the role of Communications Coordinator for 2023. 

Con un máster en Política y Administración Pública, el gran interés de Arianna Orlando por los aspectos sociales y de género del desarrollo sostenible la ha llevado a centrarse en el agua. En el Instituto de Medio Ambiente de Estocolmo y en la Asociación Mundial para el Agua, integró la perspectiva de género y la inclusión social en las intervenciones de agua, saneamiento e higiene y en los proyectos de gestión del agua. Vivir, estudiar y trabajar en Finlandia, Alemania, Suecia e Italia pone de relieve uno de sus puntos fuertes: la adaptación a equipos multinacionales y a nuevas situaciones. Se unió a CWiW como becaria y encontró una red de apoyo que la está ayudando a crecer profesionalmente al tiempo que aplica y amplía sus habilidades de comunicación y divulgación. Tras ser becaria del CWiW en 2022, está encantada de asumir el papel de Coordinadora de Comunicación para 2023.

Spanish Coordinator

Josefa Asmussen Majlufis an Economist from Universidad de Chile with a master’s degree in Strategies and Technologies for Development, which she studied for in Madrid. She has worked for over a year in the Knowledge and Advocacy team at ONGAWA, and she attended the UN 2023 Water Conference in NY. Soon she will be back in her home country to work for the Gender Division at CEPAL. Water is life, and she couldn’t work for anything else.

Josefa Asmussen Majluf es Economista de la Universidad de Chile con un máster en Estrategias y Tecnologías para el Desarrollo, que cursó en Madrid. Ha trabajado durante más de un año en el equipo de Conocimiento e Incidencia de ONGAWA, y asistió a la Conferencia del Agua ONU 2023 en NY. Pronto volverá a su país para trabajar en la División de Género de la CEPAL. El agua es vida, y no podría trabajar para otra cosa.
